CATHOLIC JOURNALIST'S WEDDING

Manchester Guardian and News Chronicle
A Catholic journalistic wedding took place in Manchester last Saturday when Mr. Brendan McManus, of the staff of the News Chronicle in Manchester, was married to Miss Mary Crozier, daughter of the editor and a member of the staff of the Manchester Guardian, at St, Edward's Church, Rusholme.
Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. J. Arthur O'Connor, M.C., P.P., assisted by the Rev. John O'Connor, of Bradford, Yorkshire—" Father Brown of G. K. Chesterton fame—who was staying in Manchester over the week-end.
WOMEN'S CATHOLIC ACTION
An American Appeal
A women's organisation, the Catholic Daughters of America, is launching an appeal to Catholic women throughout the United States, Canada, Cuba, Porto Rico, the canal zone, and Alaska to become members of the society.
From Miss Mary Duffy, the head of the society and Miss Catherine Rosney, the secretary, the Osservatore Romano has received an account of its aims, which are briefly these:—
To make Catholic women and girls throughout the American continent realise the need for corporate Catholic Action for God and for their country, and to awake them to the need for solidarity if the enemies of religion are to be overcome. The women and girls throughout the world must form a bulwark against paganism.
TO THE CLERGY A Retreat at Rainhill
The Jesuit Fathers at Loyola Hall, Rainhill, Liverpool, have been asked by a number of the clergy to arrange for a full Eight Days' Retreat, at that house, for priests. The project has long been under consideration, and it is intended to hold such a Retreat in the coming year.
As this will necessitate the sacrificing of one of the regular week-end Retreats, affecting from sixty to a hundred men, and as many applications are already being made for the new year, the Superior at Rainhill would like to hear immediately from any of the clergy who wish to attend.
If the number of applicants justifies the project, the Retreat will begin on the evening of Monday, April 26, and finish on the evening of Tuesday, May 4. This will leave ample time for return before Ascension Thursday.
Archbishop Goodier has kindly con
sented to give this Retreat. The hall is situated away in the country, and can accommodate twenty-six priests with facilities for daily Mass. Further details on application to Father Superior.
