FRENCH • CATHOLIC YOUTH Agreement with Government

An important agreement just signed between the Bishops of France and the Vichy Government Youth Secretariate sets out the relationship between Catholic Youth Orginisations and the State, and recognises the autonomy of the former, guaranteeing the fullest respect for their characteristics.
As a result the Catholic Action Movement will be represented on the Government Serietariate by delegates or by substitutes to be designated by the Bishops. The respective emblems of the various Catholic organisations are to be permitted.
In an explanatory note the Bishop of Annecy has voiced the general satisfaction that the Catholic Movement has thus been aggregated to the national work for youth, and recognition been given to the worth of the Catholic Movement. This, says the Bishop, is due to the work they have accomplished and to the efficacy of the spiritual formation of Catholic youth.
It is felt in France that the agreement will ensure harmonious collaboration not only between Catholics and the State Youth Secreteriate, but between the various Catholic youth organisations as well.
