18,276 scouts 'not enough'

WHEN the National Confer" ence of Catholic Scouters met at Westminster on Saturday it was reported that there 'are now 446 Catholic scout groups in England and Wales, with 16,600 boys and 1,676 scouters.
"You should be very grateful for that number," Cardinal Griffin told them-"but it is not anything like enough.
"I hope that priests will take a greater interest in scouting and that priests who are interested in scouts will get the movement going even better than it is at present."
Bishop Helsel], Auxiliary of liverpool, presided at the week-end conference, which was attended by 100 delegates from Catholic Scout Guilds in many parts of the country.
On relinquishing the office of chairman of the Catholic Scout Advisory Council he was succeeded by Bishop Bright, Auxiliary of Birmingham, who was his predecessor.
On Sunday the delegates attended Mass in St. George's Chapel in Westminster Cathedral, celebrated by Mgr. Gordon Wheeler in honour of SS. John Fisher and Thomas More for a revival of the Rover Quest for the Conversion of England.
St. Thomas More's Christmas Market will be held at the Chenil Galleries, next to the Chelsea Town Hall, on Saturday, December 11, from 2 to 7 p.m., and will be opened by Gilbert Harding at 3 p.m.
In the first round of the Bishop Beck Cup, Ilford Catholic F.C., the holders, heat Old Bonaventurians by 6-2.
