CARDINAL Comae MurphyO'Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, will officiate at the reopening of Portsmouth cathedral this weekend.
St John's Cathedral, Portsmouth, has been undergoing much restoration and reordering work to counter the effects of erosion and to meet the demands of the new liturgy.
Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor began his priestly life in Portsmouth cathedral and remained a priest in the Portsmouth diocese until he was appointed bishop of Arundel and Brighton.
Bishop Crispian Hollis of Portsmouth will be the principle celebrant at the Mass, which will start at 3pm on Sunday. The Mass will be one of thanksgiving and will be followed by a reception at St Edmund's School, Portsmouth.
