Life Begins Again In St. Stephen's

VIENNA.
First High Mass for nearly four years was celebrated in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, on Monday last.
The cathedral, which was shelled with incendiary bombs by the retreating G c r in a n S.S. troops in April. 1945, was reopened by Cardinal Innitzer, Archbishop of Vienna, on Sunday.
There were some 5,000 people present on Monday when, amid scenes of great enthusiasm, the Cardinal entered the Cathedral for the High Mass.
In three years the 800-years-old Cathedral has been largely restored to its former Gothic glory as a result of the painstaking work of hundreds of masons, art historians and others.
An account of the work done on the Cathedral and the preparations for its reopening appeared in THE CATHOLIC HERALD of December 3.
