LIVERPOOL CATHEDRAL OPENING IN MAY, 1967

PENTECOST SUNDAY next year has been finally selected for the consecration and format opening of Liverpool's new Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. The ceremony at 3.30 p.m. on May 14 will be preceded by the preliminary part of the consecration the previous clay in private.
On Monday, May 15, there will be a Pontifical concelebration by visiting bishops in the morning after which the cathedral will remain open for public viewing dwinay.g for the remainder of the On Trinity Saturday, May 20, traditional day for ordaining. there will be an ordination of priests with a Mass sung by seminarians. On Trinity Sunday two sung Masses to an English text—a sung Mass in the morning and a choir and congregation Mass in the evening—are planned.
Other functions will be arranged during the week to cater for specific sections of the community, including religious sisters, school children and members of confraternities.
Following a week of religious ceremonies a fortnight's cultural festival will take place This is being prepared by Mr. Bill Harpe, who was appointed director last November.
As the picture alongside shows, the main structure of the building is nearing completion.
The great lantern tower with much of the magnificent stained glass now in place, and surmounted by 16 soaring pinnacles. dominates the skyline at Brownlow Hill and is visible From all over the city.
Ten chapels around the circumference of the circular nave are in the course of completion.
