WHOLE HIERARCHY CHANGES IN 7 YEARS

Bishop of oldest Scots See is consecrated
THE oldest diocese in Scotland received a new Bishop on Tuesday when Mgr. Joseph McGee, 47-year-old former Vicar General of Dunkeld, was consecrated Bishop of Galloway in St.
Andrew's Cathedral, Dumfries, Galloway is St. Ninian's see of Whitorn, founded in the year 397. It consists of the four south-western counties of Scotland and the islands of Great and Little Cumbrae. It has some 36,800 Catholics, with 75 priests serving 35 parishes and seven religious houses.
The whole Scots Hierarchy has changed since the war: Mgr. McGee is the eighth Bishop to be consecrated since 1945, He succeeds Bishop Mellon. who died last February. the last member of the Hierarchy consecrated before the war.
The new Bishop's mother. Mrs. Sarah McGee, of Dundee. his sister and his three brothers saw him consecrated by Archbishop Godfrey, Apostolic Delegate, assisted by Bishop Scanlan of Dunkeld and Bishop Douglas of Motherwell. Archbishop Gordon Gray of St. Andrews and Edinburgh preached.
Every parish in the diocese was represented at the ceremony. Three hundred people balloted for the 100 seats reserved for the people of Dumfries.
