Menevia It is now officially announced that the consecration of the Right Rev. Mgr. John Petit as Bishop of Menevia will take place at the church of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Llandudno, on March 25. The consecrating Bishop will be the Apostolic Delegate, Mgr. Godfrey, who will be assisted at the ceremony by the Archbishop of Cardiff, Mgr. McGrath, and the Bishop of Nottingham, Mgr. Ellis.

JUBILEES The Rev. J. A. Johnson The Pope sent his special Blessing to the Rev. J. Aloysiut Johnson, parish priest of the Holy Name Church, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on the occasion of his golden jubilee in the priesthood. Educated at Ushaw, he was ordained in 1897 and served as assistant priest at St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Charles', Gosforth. In 1904 he was appointed parish priest of the Holy Name, where he has built a new church and presbytery. On Sunday next, a Solemn High Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at which the Right Rev. Mgr. Provost Knuckcy, V.G.P.A., will preach. His parishioners and friends have subscribed nearly £500, which Fr. Johnson is devoting to the erection of a new altar and the decoration of St. Joseph's chapel.

Superior of Corby School, Sunderland, Fr. Andrew Lamont McCann. S.J., yesterday (Thursday) celebrated his silver jubilee In the priesthood. Educated at St. Aloysius' College, Garnethill, Glasgow, Fr. McCann was ordained on March 12, 1922, having entered the Society of Jesus 15 years earlier. Most of Fr. IVIcCann's priestly life has been spent at St. Francis Xavier's College. Liverpool, where he served until 1942, when he moved to Corby School,

On Maich.19 an account of the consearation of Mgr. Masterson as Archbishop of Birmingham will be broadcast on Midland Regional; this will be re-broadcast on Northern Regional on March 23.
Mr. Donald Attwater will discuss Nikolai Berdyaev, the Russian philosopher, and his book, Freedom and the Spirit, in the series, "Five Challenging Thinkers," on the Home Service, on Tuesday, March 18, at 10 p.m. The evening service on Sunday, March 16 (Northern Ireland Home Service), will come from Holy Cross Retreat, Ardoyne, Belfast. It will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Christopher, with the Holy Cross Palestrina Choir. THE REV. P. F. ODDIE, M.C.
The Rev. Philip F. Oddie, parish priest at St. Edmund's, Millwall, who died on March 1, at St. John's and St. Elizabeth's Hospital, London, was 57 years of age. He was born at Wimbledon, a member of a family of 10, educated at the Jesuit College at Wimbledon, and ordained at Brompton Oratory. He was for many years assistant priest at Holy Rood, Watford, and was appointed to the charge of St. Edmund's on the death of his rector, Mgr. Canon Jackman. He remained there until his death. During the 1914-18 war Fr. Oddie served with the 9th Scottish Division and was awarded the Military Cross for his courage and devotion in attendance to the sick and wounded in the front line trenches. Two of his sisters are nuns. Requiem Mass was celebrated yesterday (Thursday) at St, Edmund's, in the presence Of the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.
FR. T. FIELDING, S.C.
The Rev. Thomas Fielding died at Stilington Hall Convalescent Home, Yorkshire, on Wednesday. February 12, aged 49 years. He did his philosophical studies in England and his theological studies at the Salesian International Theological College in Turin. Fr. Fielding was ordained at Turin in July. 1924, and spent most of his priestly life teaching at the Salesian College, Farnborough. He had not been well for some years, and died suddenly from coronary thrombosis.
MOTHER R. NILAND, 0.P.
Mother Rose Niland, 0.P., died at Rosary Priory, Bushey Heath, Hats, on March 8. Born on July 21, 1862, she entered religion on November 1, 1880, and founded her first convent at Newcastle, Natal, South Africa. This was the beginning of her great work for Catholic education in Africa, where she founded 11 convents and schools and several native missions. She began her work in England when in 1915 she opened a convent and school at Launceston, Cornwall. In 1926 she opened a convent and school at Rosary Priory, Bushey Heath, which became the Mother House and Novitiate. At Burnt Oak, in 1930, she set about building a primary and secondary school for the parishes of that district of London, thus anticipating the Education Act of 1944. .These two schools arc now considered the best of their kind in the archdiocese of Westminster. In 1932, at Eastbourne Park, in Herta, she acquired a valuable property, the home of one of our English Martyrs, 131. Adrian Fortescue, and converted it into a boarding school for boys and girls at very moderate fees. Her last school she built at Stanmore in 1938. There are also convents in Rome and Cork.
In 1942 Mother Rose celebrated the diamond jubilee of her religious profession, and in January last she attended a General Chapter of her congregation, when she asked to be released from the office of Mother General so that she might have time to prepare for her death. A new Mother General was elected and Mother Rose has died within two motiths of that Chapter.
