Church Given To Eltham

Mgr. Amigo Lays Foundation-Stone
The Bishop of Southwark On Saturday laid the foundation-stone of a new church which is being built at Eltham, S.E.
Following a novena held by the parish of Christchurch, Eltham, Miss M. Le Mott& gave the Canons Regular of the Lateran, who are in charge of the parish, £8,000 to pay for the erection of the parish, at Well Hall, an outlying part of the district, and Mgr. Amigo expressed his gratitude to the donor and his pleasure that the church was being dedicated in honour of SS. John Fisher and Thomas More, both of whom had active association with those parts.
Students Take Part The bishop, assisted by Dom Montgomery, C.R.L., rector of Christchurch, as deacon, and Dom Hewitt. C.R.L.. subdeacon, blessed the foundations and laid the stone. The responses were sung by students from the house of the Canons Regular at Hoddesdon.
Abbot Smith was in attendance on the bishop. It is hoped to pay for the land, which will cost about £700, by means of parish social functions.
