Give Camara Nobel Prize, say bishops

THE Scandinavian Catholic Bishops' Conference has proposed giving the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize to controversial Archbishop Helder Camara, of Olinda and Recife. Brazil.
Bishop Camara is wellknown for his criticism of political and economic policies in Brazil, and for his defence of the rights of workers in his homeland.
In a letter to the Norwegian parliament, which chooses a committee to select the Nobel Peace Prize winner, the bishops said that Archbishop Camara "does not believe in violence, but in human dignity and in men's responsibility and care for one another.
"This view ' has been tragically undervalued in today's politics. It seems to us that it is precisely the Nobel Peace Prize that should encourage this view."
