DOM PATRICK Barry OSB (above), has been elected Abbot of Ampleforth in succession to Dom Ambrose Griffiths.
Dom Patrick 66, was Headmaster at Ampleforth from 1964-80. In 1975 he became the first Catholic to be Chairman of the Headmasters Conference.
His most recent post has been spiritual director of a new monastic pastoral centre in East Dulwich, London, set up by Worth Abbey.
