DEGRELLE'S CHALLENGE

Van Zeeland Accepts
Franz Our Belgian Correspondent
Before an immense meeting of 20,000 Brussels Rexists assembled in the " Palais de Sport," Brussels, last Sunday, Leon Degrelle announced his manoeuvre to force a new parliamentary election in Brussels.
He stated that one of the Brussels Rexist Members of Parliament had resigned his seat simultaneously with the resignation of all the elected Rexist substitute members. There being accordingly no Rexist Members left on the elected list of substitutes to replace the retiring member, a new parliamentary election becomes necessary.
Leon Degrelle, who so far has refrained from entering Parliament, will stand for the seat. It is a direct and personal challenge to the Government.
Van Zeeland has accepted the challenge and decided to contest the seat himself " in the interests of the country and to clarify the political situation."
In protesting against the manoeuvre he declared that the country needed quiet instead of an electoral fight. The law would be changed, but since it had not been he accepted the challenge in the interests of fair play, and he would stand for the national idea, and attack no one in person.
