FOR BISHOP'S MASS
'C.H.' Correspondent
ACHOIR of Kikuyu seminarians sang motets and the Benediction hymns when Bishop Cavallera of Nyeri, Kenya, who has recently return from an extensive preaching tour of the U.S.A., celebrated Mass and gave Pontifical Benediction at an open-air altar while on a visit to the Consolata Fathers mission at Nanyuki. Nearly 1,000 Africans, together with 50 Europeans and Croans, were present.
A guard of honour of Catholic policemen, commanded by an
African inspector, escorted the Bishop's procession to and from the altar. and African police buglers sounded fanfares at the Elevation and at the Benediction.
After Benediction, the Bishop held a remotion at which the unselfconscious mingling of guests of many races showed once again in this continent of racial antagonisms that in the Church there is neither segregation nor distinction.
Before leaving the mission, Bishop Cavalleta discussed with the clergy and a small committee of laity ways and means of raising the £8.000 necessary to provide a new church adequate for the rapidly increasing number of Catholics-a formidable task in a district where the income of 95 per cent. of the Catholic population is little above subsistence kvel.
MORE THAN 100 CATENIANS from No. 11 Province were present when Archbishop King, Bishop of Portsmouth. presided at High Mass at St. Peter's. Winchester, last Sunday to mark the golden jubilee of the Catenian Association.
