Bishop Moriarty 50 Years a Priest

To-day, March 10, the Bishop of Shrewsbury celebrates the 50th anniversary of his ordination.
The Right Rev. Ambrose James Moriarty, D.D.. was horn in 1870, the nephew of Mgr. S. W. Allen, fourth Bishop of Shrewsbury. He was educated at Cotton College, Oscott, and the English College, Rome. Ordained. priest in Rome on March 10. 1894; he served as citrate and later as parish priest in the Cathedral parish of Shrewsbury where he has been well known for his public work in the town during the past. 50 years. Ile became Canon Theologian of the Shrewsbury diocese in 1910. Provost of the Cathedral Chapter in 1927. and VicarGeneral in 1925. In 1932 Mgi. Moriarty was appointed Coadjutor Bishop to Bishop Singleton. whom he succeeded as sixth Bishop of Shrewsbury in 1934.
To-day His Lordship celebrates Pontifical High Mass in Shrewsbury Cathedral in the presence of Archbishop Godfrey, Apostolic Delegate, who will receive a civic welcome from the Mayor of Shrewsbury (Alderman H. Steward. LP., WC.) in Shrewsbury Castle on Thursday evening The Apostolic Delegate will preach.
