REQUIEM Canon J. J. Tallon Solemn Requiem Mass for the

repose of the soul of the Very Rev. Canon John J. Talton, VS., rector of the church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Birkenhead, who was killed in a recent air raid, was celebrated in Our Lady's parish hall, now a temporary church, on Saturday last at 11 a.m., by the Very Rev. Provost Henry E. Hazlehurst, DD., assisted by the Very Rev. Canon Edgar A. Kirby, and the Very Rev. Canon Maurice Curran in the presence of the Right Rev. Ambrose James Moriarty, Bishop of Shrewsbury. Canons O'Reilly and Byrne were in attendance on the Bishop.
The large congregation included clergy from every part of the diocese and outside, the Director of Education for Birkenhead, Alderman Egan, an ex-Mayor of the town, representatives of Catholic societies and organisations and officials of public bodies. The interment took place at Flaybrick Hill cemetery. where Bishop Moriarty officiated at the graveside.
