Archbishop recovers from surgery

ARCHBISHOP George Niederauer of San Francisco is making good progress after undergoing cardiac doublebypass surgery, according to a report relayed by Auxiliary Bishop William Justice, the archdiocese has said.
The archbishop continues his recovery where he was hospitalised in Long Beach, California. All signs are positive, according to his doctors, the archdiocese said in its update. It said: “The archbishop has expressed his deep appreciation for the prayers of the priests, deacons, religious and laity of the archdiocese.” After experiencing chest discomfort, Archbishop Niederauer, 75, was taken to the emergency room at Long Beach Memorial Hospital by Cardinal William Levada, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and former Archbishop of San Francisco. They had been in the final days of their holiday in southern California.
