It is no secret that the SSPX disagrees with Vatican

II — yet dialogue with Rome continues From Mr Norman Calvert SIR — It has never been a secret that the Society of St Pius X has indicated its disagreement with some aspects of Vatican II ("Lefebvrists snub Pope's call for unity". April 25). Collegiality, ecumenism and religious liberty are three of these. The postconciliar popes and Vatican authorities have always been aware of this, unlike, it seems, The Catholic Herald.
The .society welcomed the Mom Proprio of Pope Benedict but has always made the valid point, confirmed by a commission of cardinals in 1986, that the Mass of Pius V had never been abrogated and that priests were entitled to celebrate using that form. The Church granted permission for something which had never been forbidden in the first place.
You may disagree with the views of the society but should be prepared to examine its case, which has always been given in a rational manner, unlike your editorial. The Vatican authorities do not share your acerbic views, and dialogue continues.
Yours faithfully.
