Lenten sermons in London

Leaders of practically ever denomination in Britain will take part in a unique series of sermons to be given at the Church of St Lawrence Jewry, London, during Lent.
The Lenten course on the theme "We believe" is the first outcome of a meeting between Cardinal Hume and Bishop Gerald Ellison the Anglican Bishop of London with all their area bishops in November last year.
Cardinal Hume, all the area bishops of London, Archbishop Worlock of Liverpool, Bishop Clark of East Anglia and Bishop Casey of Brentwood are among the 32 preachers together with a number of the Anglican bishops of London and leaders of the Methodists, Baptists and United Reformed Churches.
The sermons will take place at lunchtime daily between Ash Wednesday, February 28 and Monday, Thursday April 12.
The series has been organised by the Rev Basil Watson, vicar at the church, who predicted this week that there would be long queues to hear what the preachers had to say. The line-up would poroduce "a most dramatic display", he said.
