Cardinal goes West

Cardinal Hume is to visit the United States next year and will take part in the American Benedictines' celebrations of St Benedict's 15th centenary.
The Cardinal will leave for the US in late May and his visit is expected to last about a month. Although details of the trip have not been finalised the Cardinal will be giving a number of lectures.
He may well also collect funds raised for the restoration of Westminster Cathedral. The Duke of Norfolk made a special trip to the US last year to enlist support for the work of the Friends of Westminster Cathedral.
Three of the existing Benedictine houses in the US were founded from England, and one of them, the Priory of St Mary and St Louis, Missouri, from the Cardinal's own abbey of Ampleforth.
