Cardinal Vaughan wins round in admissions battle

CARDINAL VAUGHAN, the west London school that was reported to the Schools’ Adjudicator by the Diocese of Westminster over its admissions criteria, has won the first round in its battle with the diocese.
The school governors had sought a judicial review of the Schools’ Adjudicator’s ruling which retrospectively changed the sixth-form admissions criteria for 2010 after all sixth-form deadlines had passed, which meant that 16-year-olds entering the school this September may have lost their places.
The Treasury Secretary, which represents the Adjudicator, has announced that it will not contest the case. On the school’s website a statement said offers could now be made to sixth-form applicants.
