HELP FROM BRITAIN

Macao, an island off the Chinese coast, more than 500 old men and women will be given their week's ration of rice, clothes and their rent-money by a lone Spanish Jesuit. He is Fr. Luis Ruiz, internationally known as "Chaplain of the Refugees". He has been called one of the most professional scroungers in the world".
Lately, thousands of old people expelled from China have been pouring into Macao. Most of them end up outside Fr, Ruiz's "supermarket". In his hands, £1 keeps a refugee going on rice and bedspace for a month. A lot of money is spent on coffins.
Fr. Ruie gets his supplies from all over the world, One of his main contacts in this country is with Help the Aged. a I.ondonbased inter-faith committee to help old people.
This week. Help the Aged is running appeals in six towns throughout England. Churches of all denominations in Southport, Chigwell, Runcorn, Hunts, Egbaston and Northfield are opening as reception centres for used clothing and money.
During the next fortnight. appeals will follow in nine other towns. The organisation helps the aged in Alaska, Skopje. Algeria, Macao, and even in our own welfare state.
