STOCKPORT Education Committee has cut the number of free places it will award to local direct grant and and independent schools front next September to prepare for the introduction of comprehensive schools.
Only 74 free places will be awarded to Catholic schools, a reduction of 42.
Schools which will have smaller intakes include St. Bede's College, the Xaverian College and St. Augustine's Grammar School, all in Manchester, and St, Ambrose's College. Hale Barns.
Several Catholic schools will receive no Stockport pupils. Harrytown Convent High School. Romiley, Loreto Convent, Manchester, and St. Gregory's Grammar School, Manchester.
