said it had allowed for "a lengthy consultation" between the Cardinal, and the area's priests and parishioners.
He also expressed confidence in the resources found in the five areas he will be responsible for, and pointed out that, despite pessimistic predictions about the fall in vocations on a national scale, "there is a terrific boom in vocations in. Westminster."
Praising Bishop Konstant's efforts towards ecumenical dialogue within the Westminster area, the newly-appointed Bishop acknowledged his own commitment to "this very important issue". Bishop Crowley's first day at this new post was spent at a meeting with the Central Area Pastoral Team, a ten member group which coordinates specialised ministries.
The new bishop, who was educated at St Aloysius 'College in Highgate, studied for the priesthood at St Edmund's College, Ware, and was ordained by the late Cardinal John Heenan at Westminster Cathedral on June 12, 1965.
Mgr Crowley will be ordained bishop in Westminster Cathedral on December 8, by Cardinal Hume.
