Keywords: Eastbourne, Sports

" In Rhodesia," said Canon Jackman, " for a paltry five bob it is possible to obtain the services of witch doctors, who will bury some earth between the posts of one's opponent's goal, earth which will attract the ball and get many goals." Mgr. Jackman was addressing the boys of St. Anthony's School, Eastbourne, after distributing the prizes at the annual sports day, held on Saturday last, July 1. Canon Jackman added that he did not know how matters were arranged at half-time.
The headmaster and founder of the school, in the course of a very interesting speech, told the company that he felt It was time to take his son and his son's wife into closer collaboration In the work of the school. This introduction of younger blood augurs well for the prosperity of one of our oldest preparatory schools, in which so many well-known Catholics have received their early training.
It is interesting to note that during the past year St. Anthony's boys have won six scholarships at our public schools, and two have secured entrance to the Navy.
Present at the sports were noticed, In addition to those named above. the headmasters of the Oratory and Downside.
