General Chapter of Franciscan Missionaries of Mary

The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary are holding the 17th General Chapter of their Institute in Grottaferrata, near Rome, from 2nd September to 30th October 1996. The theme of the Chapter is:
UNIVERSAL MISSION
AN ADVENTURE IN COMMUNION AT THE SERVICE OF LIFE AND HOPE
The opening Eucharist of the Chapter is presided by Fr Herman Schaluck, Minister General of the OFM. During the Chapter, the 130 Chapter members representing the 8,375 sisters throughout the world, will elect their Superior General and her Council.
Founded by Mary of the Passion in 1877, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary are an International Institute with a specifically missionary and Franciscan spirituality centred on the Eucharist. Today, sisters from 73 different nationalities keep alive the charism of their foundress in their life of prayer, in community, and in their commitment to universal mission.
It is hoped that this General Chapter will be marked by a sense of celebration and thanksgiving for their shared past, and clearly determine the future lines of action for their missionary presence and activities in a rapidly changing world.
