Diocese may stretch

A parish meeting has suggested that Middlesbrough diocese, which stretches from the Tees south to the Humber, should include the north bank of the Tees so unifying the new Cleveland county.
The suggestion has come from praishioners at St Andrew's, Teesville, who were discussing the appointment of a new bishop following the death of Bishop McClean a month ago.
The meeting also suggested that a candidate from within the diocese would be preferred to an outsider, that he should be "young in outlook if not necessarily in years".
