YCW hits at waste of talent
Catholic Herald Reporter AIMLESS drifting and waste of talents among young people can be stopped, declares the Young Christian Workers' annual report, published this week.
The report applauds Sir John Newsom's study "Half Our Future" for stating a need "for closer working between schools and youth organisations". The YCW also calls for anational programme of vocational guidance to help school leavers find the jobs they can do best. During the past year the YCW took a !lumber of surveys on young work ing people which showed that for many "work has no.real meaning" except a "financial return". me The 17,200 members of YCW have discussed the problem at length in local meetings and have also talked it over with government education officials and trade unionists. Individual members have made a point of helping newcomers at ce their places cif work and have formed special committees for apprentices. Some have tried to obtain youth clubs in areas that lack organised recreation.
