Cardinal Hume promotes racial justice

CARDINAL Basil Hume will join Catholic MP Keith Vaz to address a conference on "Racial Justice and the Church" to be held at Digby Stuart College in Roehampton, London, tommorrow.
The conference is being arranged jointly by the Cardinal's Continuing Committee for the Caribbean Community and the Catholic Association for Racial Justice. The day of speeches and workshops will be concluded with a Mass of celebration by Bishop Victor Guazzelli of East London.
Mr Vaz, the Labour MP for Leicester East, will speak on "The Nature and Effects of Racism in British Society" and Cardinal Hume on "The Role of Christians in Promoting Racial Justice and Peace".
The conference will also discuss the issues of black leadership in the Church, local and central government policy, and theology and racism.
