Pope approves priestʼs request

POPE BENEDICT XVI has approved the withdrawal of an Austrian bishop nominee after widespread criticism of his selection.
He has dispensed Mgr Gerhard Wagner from accepting the office of auxiliary bishop in Linz, Austria. Last month Mgr Wagner asked the Pope to withdraw his nomination, citing the “fierce criticism” over his suggestion that Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment.
