OXFAM sends urgent aid

An OXFAM announcement reports that emergency grants totalling £11,000 have been sent in the past week to help refugees who have been fleeing from the Sudan to the Congo and from East Pakistan to Assam.
Mr. David Carter. an OXFAM official who happened to be on the spot in tTle Congo. cabled a request for funds to help 5,000 Christian refugees from southern Sudan who are being cared for in the Congo by Catholic and Protestant missions. £3,000 has been sent for seeds. tools and educational equipment In the Assam Hills where more than 60,000 refugees, mostly Christian Gharo tribesmen have fled in recent weeks from East Pakistan. 12 provisional camps have been set up. OXFAM has sent f5,000 to Catholic Relief Services to aid the victims.
Other Christian refugees have been helped in Calcutta (.£1.000) and the Kwilu Province of the Congo (3.500). where there is a serious food shortage.
