PORTSMOUTH'S NEW BISHOP The Rt, Rev. John Henry King, V.0.,

B.D., D,Ph., has been appointed Bishop of the diocese of Portsmouth.
The new bishop was born in Wardour, Wilts, in 1880. He was educated in Rome and ordained priest in 1904 for the diocese of Portsmouth and for many years acted as Bishop's Secretary.
He has been parish priest of St. Peter's, Winchester, since 1923 (the lovely Gothic church there was built by him) and was made Canon in 1924. He became VicarGeneral in 1929 and in 1933 was made Domestic Prelate. In 1938 he was constituted titular Bishop Opus and Auxiliary for Portsmouth, and in November, 1940, was appointed Vicar Capitular.
