A SURREY PARISH The Story of Farnham

Farnham, Surrey, is a town fortunate indeed to have found an historian of Pr. Robo's painstaking quality, a man with the conviction that a good thing is worth doing well not only as e literary record but also in the material form of its presentation. Like the author's previous and larger book, Blediteval Farnham, this account of the fortunes of the Catholic parish is beautifully produced, both as to printing and illustrations; in that respect the laurels are shared hy the Farnham printer, Mr E. W. Langskuirri, whose work is indeed a credit to his ancient craft.
Here we have a nareattve strolling from the penal times, and ehewing how the Surrey town owed monsetaing of its Catholic restoration, indirectly, to the French Revolution, by the labours of members of the colony of amore priests who settled in Farnham to the number of two hundred: Fr. Robe gives us a long list of these immigrants. From small foundations we follow, stage by stage, develonment and inerease. culminating in the striking and dignified church of St. Jahn, which wee ripened by Fr. Ratio's 4fnrts, In 1930. With a detailed deseription of that building the survey fittingly concludes.
The Story of a Cathodic Parish. By the Rev. Etienne Robo. With introduction by Hilaire Belloc. Langham, 5s.
