OLYMPIA
Cardinal to officiate at the Vocations Exhibition
THIRTY missionaries from St. Joseph's College, Mill Hill, will be ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Griffin at an altar in Olympia, London, oI\ Sunday, July 12th, the closing day of the eight-day Vocations Exhibition.
This was announced at a meeting of parish priests last week at Westminster Cathedral Hall at which His Eminence announced plans for the exhibition.
The Cardinal will open the exhibition by celebrating Pontifical High Mass at an altar in the Exhibition Hall on Sunday, July 5.
Daily Benediction
Pontifical Benediction will he given each evening by one of the Bishops of the dioceses taking part.
The Cardinal has invited the dioceses of Southwark, Brentwood, o rtham pton and Portsmouth to take part in the exhibition, and more than 100 religious orders and congregations have already agreed to join in.
The object of the exhibition— which will he on the lines of those previously held in Manchester and Glasgow—will be to encourage vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.
Stalls will be set up to explain the work of the secular clergy and of religious orders for men and for women.
Huge gathering
Priests, religious and nuns will be at hand to answer enquiries.
It is hoped that several hundred thousand people will visit the exhibition during the week.
To co-ordinate the arrangements. the Cardinal has established a special committee of which Canon William Heffernan, of Brook Green, is chairman, To assist the committee will be Fr. Forrestal], of the Salford diocese, who played a leading part in arranging the exhibitions in Manchester and Glasgow.
