Mrs Alex Cosgrave, who until recently worked as a staff

reporter on the Catholic Herald, has taken up a new post as a development officer for the Westminster archdiocese.
The appointment is part of a three-year project launched by the archdiocese to form a diocesan social welfare commission. It is hoped the project will co ordinate social work and pastoral care in the archdiocese.
The proposed commission will reflect every aspect of the caring work and will help to formulate diocesan social policy. It aims to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and advice and to uncover the social needs within the diocese which have not as yet been recognised. 'Ft IF: second international confernece of the Association for Catholic Deaf will take plate in Manchester in August 1980. The theme of the conference will be "Towards a Living Eucharist" and Fr C. Hollywood, chairman of the committee for the Catholic conference on Religious Education of the Hearing Impaired, said that its aim was to focus on practical ways of enabling the deaf to share fully in the life of the Christian community.
