Dear Friends of St. Therese,

DO YOU RECOGNISE THIS MAN?
He is the individual missionary priest . . unknown arid too often forgotten soldier of the Church . . . the man who has gone forth to teach the nations, and has chosen to involve himself in the spiritual, social and cultural development of the poor, the homeless, the deprived. He is the spiritual Father of his flock ... the doctor ... the builder ... the teacher, His abode is the harbour of his people ... his food is shared with the hungry. His scar is the 'meals on wheels', the taxi for the poor . . the ambulance . . . the hearse.
He has cut himself off from his fellow men to devote his life and energy to the task of evangelisation. In the changing circumstances and rapid advances of the local churches in his new environment, much is demanded of him.
This hardworking unobtrusive pioneer who mans the remote outposts of Christ's kingdom on earth often lacks the means to accomplish his task. His needs are many: Food . . . shelter . . .
The assurance of constant prayers and sacrifices that God may sanctify him and bless his work . , An occasional donation, or Mass offering, for books to help him keep abreast of things . . .
A little fund to enable him to distribute a mite to the hungry and naked on his doorstep . . .
Your Man of the Fourth World
Schools, hospitals and other buildings in Mission countries are now provided by International organisations, government and local agencies. BUT WHO THINKS OF THE INDIVIDUAL, THE HUMAN NEEDS OF THE MAN WHO REALLY GIVES THE PURPOSE TO IT ALL . .. THE MAN WHO GIVES HIS LIFE AND LOVE TO SAVE SO MANY? is he in danger of becoming the neglected ONE of the FOURTH WORLD of out-dated heroes?
It is the privilege of the Little Way of St. Therese to obtain spiritual and temporal help for missionaries in need. Like St. Paul, we make demands on the faithful to support these representatives of Christ. You may not be in a position to follow the paths they have chosen or to contribute much to their material needs but YOU CAN DO SOMETHING. You will remember that St. Therese of the Child Jesus never set foot on mission territory yet she is the Patron Saint of the Missions, and continues to "Spend her Heaven in doing good upon earth".
In her name we ask you to help us to give a purpose to the labours of Christ's special ambassador who suffers the pangs of exile. The following are some suggestions: WILL YOU:
• Kindly remember Missionaries in your prayers, especially on Mission Sunday, October 21st.
• Get 2 or 3 people to join you in adopting a missionary whose name and details we can supply; ("where 2 or 3 are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them").
• Help a missionary to complete a Bush Chapel.
• Organise a mission day in your own home.
• Forgo some luxury and send us the proceeds towards our Poor Missionary Fund (cheques and Postal Orders should be crossed and made payable to the Little Way Association).
• Organise a vigil of .prayer in your local parish or convent chapel to witness your prayerful concern for Missionaries everywhere.
May God lore and reward you,
Miss) Mary Doohan
