From, Our Own Correspondent Christian Trade Unions have played an important part in bringing together French capital and labour. In Lille, centre of the French north industrial region (iron, textile, chemistry and iniiluling
Industries), a conference of Christian and Socialist Trade Unions took place with Employers' Syndicates.
Four Christian delegates were among the employers, and two Christian delegates among the employees, out of a total of nine delegates.
This proportion proves the new strength of the Catholic Unions. The final resolution underlined the necessity of co-operation with the employers with a view to safeguarding the present social legislation as well as the present social order.
A co-ordination committee of the metal ir dustries studies the manner in which the economic measures of war can be realised. The Christian syndicates play an outstanding part on the two committees as well as on those about to be founded.
