COUNCIL POST FOR BISHOP DWYER

BISHOP DWYER of Leeds has
been appointed by Pope John to the Pontifical Commission of Bishops and Diocesan Government for the preparation of the Ecumenical Council—the Second Vatican Council, He is among 16 archbishops and bishops whose appointments were announced last Saturday They include Bishop Browne of Galway. Ireland; Bishop Suenens, auxiliary of Malincs, Belgium: Bishop Piazzi of Bergamo, the Pope's native diocese; the Melkite Archbishop of Beirut and Gihail, Mgr. Nabaa; the Maronite Bishop of Sidon. Mgr. Khoreiche; and Archbishop Morcillo Gonzalez of Saragossa, Spain, who is known for his outspoken statements on Catholic social teaching.
Ten archbishops and bishops and seven priests have also been appointed consultors to this cornmission. They include Archbishop Lemieux of Ottawa, Canada; Archbishop Simonds. auxiliary of Melbourne. Australia; Bishop Muldoon, auxiliary of Sydney, Australia; and the superior general of the Assumptionists. Fr. Joseph Dufault, A.A.
