Canon Arthur Fleming BORN IN BffintOw-in-Furness in January 1913, Arthur Fleming was educated at St Patrick's and St Columba's Schools and studied for the priesthood at Ushaw College.
After ordination in June 1940, he taught at Ushaw for the next 12 years. He then became assistant priest at Christ the King, Carlisle, and the following year, became parish priest at St Bernard's, Preston. He served as parish priest at St Joseph's, Anadell, from 1957 until retiring in 1989. His funeral was at Ss Mary and Michael, Garstang, last Friday.
Fr James Costello A PRIEST FOR the Hexham and Newcastle diocese, James Costello has died unexpectedly at the age of 66.
Ordained at St Peter's College, Wexford, in June 1954, he moved to England to become assistant priest at St Lawrence's, Byker, Newcastle. Six years later he moved to become assistant at Seaham Harbour, then Bells Close from 1967. In 1972, he became priest in charge at St Thomas', North Shields, then at St Anthony's, Walker. In 1978, he became parish priest at Bellingham, where he served until his death.
His funeral was at St Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle, last Friday.
