Is Papal authority set at naught by Latin Mass Society?

IT has come to my notice that at the recent meeting of the Latin Mass Society (which I was unable to attend) a motion was passed to the effect that "This Society shall in no way expressly or impliedly accord recognition to the Missa Normativa as a valid Mass." As I cannot agree with this statement, I have resigned from the Society.
However much one may treasure the Tridentine Mass, to maintain that validity reposes solely in ritual repetition of these particular ceremonies and words is, ultimately, to degrade the Mass to the level of mere magic, wherein all depends upon the exact correctness with which the ceremonial is performed. It is the validity of the intention which is essential, and the intention of the Catholic Church in the celebration of Mass is, I am convinced, the same now as it ever was, The Wording of the new Canons of the Mass, even if one were to feel it to he inadequate, clearly implies the right intentions and expresses the true doctrines of the Church, namely, the combined sacrificial and memorial character of the Mass.
Moreover, the Pope has declared that the Missa Normative is valid. He has given his approval to the new Missal. Is Papal authority to be set at naught? The Pope, in his office as successor of Saint Peter and possessor of the right to bind and to loose, he has full power to make any particular rite valid.
If there were something heretical contained in the new rite, then indeed there would be cause for concern; but if you believe that the Church's doctrines are safeguarded from corruption by virtue of the Church's foundation upon the Rock that is Peter, against which the Gates of Hell shall not prevail, then the Pope could not possibly approve anything heretical,
I regret the passing of the Latin Tridentine Mass, and should like to see it restored, restored alongside the Missa Normative, but I cannot in conscience associate myself with a society which by implication impugns the unique authority of the Pope and is potentially schismatical.
James A. Tomlin London, N.W.4.
