St. Pius read to children
BECAUSE St. Pius X was "The Tope of the Eucharist," "The Poltle of the Children" and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, a triduum of prayers'and solemn functions, including the canonisation day, was held by the Capuchin Franciscan Fathers in Church Street, Dublin.
And ever), thing was arranged as the new saint would have had it.
This Friary church has a sodality for children called the Young Irish Crusaders. It was founded during the lifetime of St. Pius, was known to him and received his blessing.
The founder, 84-year-old Franciscan Fr. Aloysius, has two autographed letters, writtcn in 1910 and 1912, in which St. Pius offers his congratulations to the children and confers his benediction.
Fr. Alm sius read these to the children when he preached at their Solemn High Mass on Saturday morning.
Hundreds of children received Holy Communion and sang the parts of the Mass and the responses to the celebrant and deacon in the Gregorian chant. Thus they recalled the desire of St. Pius that the laity should receive Holy Communion frequently and even daily, that children should receive the Blessed Sacrament at a much earlier age than had been customary, and that the laity should have an active part in the Mass.
After the Mass the children joined with the choir in singing the Papal. anthem in Irish, "Dia le nar bPapa" ("God bless our Pope").
