'FREE THE CARDINAL'

Only hope for Hungary "THE only way of stopping
Hungary being a mere vassal of Russia and of putting an end to such crimes against humanity [as the brutal executions of Imre Nagy and his colleagues] is for the West to try and secure the freedom of Cardinal Mindszenty," states a letter addressed to the Governor of Malta by representatives of Maltese University Students.
"The Cardinal is the only man in Hungary who can command the support of a majority of his fellow Hungarians," the letter continues. "He is the man who can restore to his native land its democratic freedom and its suppressed sense of patriotic pride."
Last week, 3,000 Hungarians attended St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, for a Requiem Mass celebrated by a Hungarian priest for Imre Nagy and General Pal Maleter.
