Balasuriya backs Dupuis THE SRI LANKAN theologian Fr Tissa Balasuriya

has appealed to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to make public its investigation of the Belgian Jesuit scholar Fr Jacques Dupuis.
In a statement last week M support of Fr Dupuis, who is being investigated by the CDF for writing his book Toward a Christian Theology of Religious Pluralism, Fr Balasuriya said the CDF should open the process to "public discernment".
He also asked for the • Congregation to establish a forum consisting of Asian ; bishops, theologians and canon lawyers to evolve guidelines on the procedure of doctrinal investigations. "A similar dialogue was helpful in working out a procedure concerning theological issues in the USA," Fr Balasuriya said.
"In this way the present suffering of Fr Dupuis could help evolve Asian Christian theology... for problem resolution within the Church.
"This will be for the good of the Church in the coming years when she has to face these issues in a fast-evolving world situation."
