What the dioceses said:

Keywords: Vicar

WESTMINSTER: "I would suggest that you get in touch with Quest." Mgr David Norris, Vicar GeneraL ARUNDEL AND BRIGHTON: "There is no one person deputed in this area; generic pastoral care is available to all in the parishes of the diocese." Mgr John Hull, Vicar General.
CARDIFF: "The homosexual community, like any other group of people with special pastoral needs, can seek help on an individual basis at any time, from any of our priests." Fr Joseph Boardman, Archbishop's Secretary.
HALLAM: "As we are dealing with a very sensitive issue, the Bishop has people that he can call on. He is not prepared to give their names." Mgr McBride, Vicar General. HEXHAM AND NEWCASTLE: "The whole matter is under consideration." Fr William Jacks, Diocesan Secretary.
LANCASTER: "It is my opinion that while experts specially trained ministers can be very useful, it is the local priest, deacon and parish workers who generally have direct dealings with homosexual persons. A number of deaneries have arranged for some consideration of [their] pastoral care... BishopJohn Brewer NORTHAMPTON: "I must honestly say that to date nothing exists in the diocese which would meet what vias recently suggested by Cardinal Hume. Though I obviously cannot speak for the pastoral care which individual priests I hope do offer." Mgr Pat McAleenan, Vicar General. PORTSMOUTH: "I am not aware of any specific priests being trained to a special ministry to homosexuals: we would, I feel, see this as a discriminatory policy." Mgr Joseph Murtagh, Vicar General.
SOUTHWARK: "I think that perhaps there is a difference between being 'properly' trained, in Cardinal Hurne's words, and 'special' training. I write this not to split hairs, but because I am aware that there are a number of priests in our diocese who have obviously developed a particular ministry to homosexual people over the course of the years, and so I would reject any implication that because there are no special training courses, this area of pastoral care is neglected." Mgr John Hine, Vicar General
