Cardinal errors

CONTROVERSY erupted last week about a new book on the Papacy, entitled Pontiff which contains claims that Cardinal Hume strongly opposed the elevation to Cardinal of Thomas O'Fiaich, Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland.
Cardinal Hume has protested publicly to the hook's suggestions in a letter to the publishers. He says the book contains serious errors and it is utterly untrue that he was "actively opposed to the archbishop receiving the red hat."
He also says that the book may have endangered the relationship between church leaders in Ireland and England.
The two authors, Gordon Thomas and Max Morgan-Witts have refused to retract any of their suggestions.
