The Pilgrim Pope's Itinerary

pOPE PAUL is assured of 1an enthusiastic welcome throughout his Epiphany pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Officials of both Jordan and Israel are extending every possible courtesy to make his visit memorable and smooth.
Plans for the three days have been shifting and changing continually as government departments and Church authorities put forward a complex variety of suggestions for the unprecedented journey.
Nevertheless the general outlines of the papal agenda arc more or less set. The plane hearing the Pope and approximately 10 other dignitaries is scheduled to land at Amman airport in Jordan at 1 p.m. on
Maximos of the Greek Church and Patriarchs representing the Church in Alexandria, Jerusalem, the Lebanon, Baghdad and Armenia.
Other Archbishops will receive the Pope at the Prince Abdullah Bridge, halfway on the procession route to Jerusalem.
Sixteen Archbishops are due to arrive in Amman on Wednesday for the ceremonies and 28 Cardinals have been invited to visit Jordan.
They are the Cardinals Tisserant. Micara, Cereicira, Lienart, Gerlier, Feltin, Spellman, Pla y Deniel, Frings, Ruffini, Caggiano, da'Silva, Leger. Gracias. Cushing, Konig, Doepfner, 'Testa. Doi, Rugambwa, Quintero, Concha, Henriques, Suenens, Cicognani, Vasconcellos, Motta and Agagianian.
About 1.000 arches, decorated with the Jordanian and Vatican flags,are being erected in Amman, Jerusalem and Bethlehem and along the routes the Pope will travel.
The welcoming ceremonies completed, Pope Paul and his entourage are to enter automobiles, and preceded by a motorcycle escort. are to drive through the city of Amman and thence to Jerusalem, a distance of about 65 miles.
When the official party reaches the Jordan river. which is the boundary line between the Amman district and the Jerusalem district, it will stop to permit the Governor of Amman to leave the party and the Governor of Jerusalem to join it. It is likely that the Pope may also alight and walk to the hank of the Jordan.
