RESIDENTS IN the village of Heptonstall in West Yorkshire have won their battle to stop a disused Baptist chapel being taken over by a group of witches. They have persuaded the owner to reject the witches bid, and it now seems likely that the chapel will become part of an Outward-Bound-type pursuits centre.
Money to eat
THE DISASTERS Emergency Fund appeal for famine victims in Africa has now reached £2 million. The DEC is made up of five development agencies — Cafod, Save the Children, Oxfam, British Red Cross and Christian Aid, The Ministry for Overseas Development announced this week that it is to contribute £1 million to the appeal.
Dip not drip
THE CISTERCIAN monks of Caldey Abbey have been so badly hit by the drought that they can daily be seen bathing in the waves off their remote island. They have no fresh water whatever in the abbey.
