HERR RAAB FLIES TO ROME

HERR JULIUS RAAB, the Austrian Chancellor, was to be received by the Pope in private audience on Wednesday morning, it was announced on Monday. He left Austria on Tuesday for a oneweek private visit to Rome.
Considerable interest is attached to this visit in view of Austria's recent request for the negotiation of a new Concordat to replace the 1933 Concordat. This request was rejected by the Holy See on the grounds that the 1933 Concordat was fully valid, but Vatican officials say that the Holy See is preparzd to consider amendments to it if Austria feels the need for them.
Herr Raab was also due to meet the Italian Prime Minister, Signor Zoli the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Signor Pella, and the Minister of Defence, Signor Taviani, at a banquet given by the Austrian ambassador on Wednesday evening. It was expected that among the subjects to be discussed would be the problem of the South Ty rol (Alto Adige).
Meanwhile, the A us t rian Bishops' Conference, which met last week, expressed its satisfaction at Austria's recognition of the 1933 Concordat, reports the Vienna daily Die Presse. The Bishops requested the Government to create the conditions for carrying out the Concordat and to take up the Vatican suggestion for negotiations for amendments to the Concordat.
In a radio speech on Monday, Herr Raab stressed the Austrians' interest in resuming the deadlocked talks, saying that he would try to clarify the Government's point of view which is being highly influenced by the internal political situation in Austria.
The Pope's Prayers
Eighty-three prayers composed by the Holy Father from the beginning of his Pontificate to last January, have been collected and published as a book. The first copy was presented to the Pope last week by the Belgian Publishing Company of Desclee. The prayers have been translated into French by the Benedictine monks of SoIesmes. They include prayers composed at the request of various groups and also those contained in various discourses and radio addresses.
Royal Baptism
Prince Albert of Monaco will be baptised in the Principality's Cathedral on Sunday, April 20. The day before, he will have his first outing when he will be presented to all Monaco's citizens over 21 in the Palace court.
