Beware the sin of lust

REGARDING Christopher Howse on "What the Pope really said on Adultery", he should be praised for having the courage of a true pastor and calling a spade a spade.
If people are. although some will only pretend to be, uncomprehending. it is indeed a timely statement he has made and all Christians. not just Catholics should be grateful to him, for we live in an age where there is an almost worldwide exploitation of sex, which includes the vilest pornography. The Pope is only stating in another way the words of St. Paul — "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her that he might sanctify her, that he might present her to himself in splendour without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing that she might be Holy and without blemish."
Is not lust one of the deadly sins? The danger of lust in inherent in human sexuality, Has it suddenly disappeared in the 20th century? The fact that people marry does not mean that it disappears from fallen human nature. There can be no doubt that there are many 'acts of love' which contain little or no love for the other person and can only be called Lust.
The Pope seeks to preserve and sanctify human love (and family life) which at its best is still but a pale ghost of the love of Christ for the Church. May God help him, against the wiles of his detractors.
