[ PLACES ... PEOPLE AND St George's Church, Sudbury, Middlesex, will celebrate the golden jubilee of its consecration on April 18 with a Mass at 6.30 pm concelebrated by Mgr Wilfred Purney, Fr Patrick Murphy (former curates) and a number of priests ordained from the parish. On Sunday, April 23, St Georges Day, Cardinal Hume will unveil a plaque in memory of Fr Russell, St George's first parish priest. The service is at 10.30 am and all former parishioners are welcome.

Nearly 400 young people gathered at Christ the King Church, Westhill Road, Coventry, recently for a festival organised by Renewal and Youth. During a concelebrated Mass which opened the event more than 100 youngsters aged 14 to 16 who have signed a pledge not to drink until they are 18, presented their pledges to the chief celebrant, Canon Bernard McKenna.

Christians Against Racism Ind Fascism is to hold a national rally in Hyde Park, London, on April 22, from 12 noon to 3,0 p.m. It will include a Service of Penitence. The rally will conclude with a shared meal which the organisers have called "a modern version of the Feeding of the Five Thousand". A bazaar organised by the Catholic Women's League at St Elizabeth's Church, Richmond, Surrey, has raised L23l for the Star and Garter Home for disabled exservicemen.

Nearly 40 men and women representing Grail family groups all over the country came together at the Grail Centre, Pinner. Middlesex, recently to reflect on their past experience and future work around the theme "Growing in Christ". In shared worship, prayer and discussion a variety of initiatives were revealed including
Leadership of prayer groups, support for Lourdes House, a holiday home for mentally handicapped at Margate, and inter-Church activity.

Mr Bob Mellish, MP will propose the toast at a lunch organised by the Society of the Friends of St George to celebrate St George's Day on April 23. Archbishop Bowen and all the cathedral clergy will concelebrate Mass in St George's Cathedral, Southwark, before the lunch.
Bishop Restleaux of Plymouth celebrated Mass on Tuesday at the Church of Christ the King, Plymouth, and presented the Bene Merenti Medal to Mrs Alice O'Leary, who for many years has voluntarily run a Catholic bookshop from the church. Fr George Hay, the recently appointed Rector of the English College in Rome, has been appointed EL Prelate of Honour by the Pope.
