The statement at the National Conference of Priests, as it
stands, by Canon Anthony Hulme "that the sort of help Catholic homosexuals were looking for could not be given by the Church" is almost unbelievable coming from a senior priest, though one can see that it might have been quoted out of context in your report of September 16. To whom else should such people go but competent counsellors, be they priests or Catholic psychiatrists — granted that both are rather thin on the ground? Maurice Mahoney London WC2.
